CHARACTER CREATION
Character Building
As per email correspondence, using the Over the Edge system.
Money and equipment will be based upon character concept.
Character Concepts
To my mind, the game will hinge upon two different aspects; firstly, exploration (either for a particular purpose or an end in itself) and secondly, making the world a better place (or at least, your character's vision of what might make the world a better place). As a result, I think characters who are outward bound and ambitious or idealistic would be good ways to go.
However, seeing as this is a world that I am pulling together from various places, it makes sense for me to give you some suggestions.
Cartographer
The Cartographic Guild is one of the more progressive lodges but a lodge it is nonetheless. Cartographers are sent out from the guild in order to make maps of the traverse system and of any cities, towns or farmable outcrops that might prove useful. Some Cartographers are sociological, setting themselves up in cities and sending back intelligence about the society they inhabit, others are more into derring-do, breaking away from the better known trade routes to find new traces of civilisation.
Feudal Noble
Brought up in a traversial barony or fief to be a knight but decided to run away and seek fortune out in the modern world. This modern world is a terrifying place whose values and ideas are at odds with those you grew up with.
Gentleman Thief
Preying only upon the richer members of society either because they make richer pickings or in order to redistribute their wealth down the social ladder, the Gentleman Thief has one foot in two social worlds and while he knows how to put on the airs and graces of high society, he knows the real rules that underpin all cultures.
Revolutionary
Possibly already blacklisted by the Lodges, possibly the only surviving member of a terrorist cell wiped put by the Phonicean Watch, you count the days until the morning that the oppressed of the world realise their plight and cast off their shackles in order to reclaim power for themselves. Might have heard legends about pre-crymian Earth and their modes of governance.
Rogue Inventor
Had an idea that grew into a hobby that grew into an obsession, but is now terrified that the Lodges will track his purchases and rentals from the library and put together that he's been working on an invention that will completely change the way the world operates. Maybe it's a subcrym capable of travelling under the surface of the crym, maybe its a tomato plant that yields seeds that can then be planted, maybe it's a repeating musket.
Lawyer
In a more barbarous age he might have been called a judicial champion, but nowadays lawyers do not fight to prove who is right, they rather fight to prove a correct interpretation of the law. A good lawyer would not only win the fight, but manage to word the matter to be settled in such a way as to minimise his client's potential losses and maximise his potential gains.
